In years past, consumer reports and car reviews could only be gathered via labor-intensive market research activities such as surveys, tracking sales, professional driver reviews, focus groups, and various other forms of surveys. Now, thanks to the Internet, people are now typing their questions, concerns, and feedback into search engines at a rate of almost a billion searches/day. These search phrases, gathered and analyzed on a massive scale, are now providing us with remarkable insight into the public experience and thoughts toward almost any topic imaginable.

In the this study over 100,000 unique search phrases and their frequencies were gathered and analyzed, the equivalent to over 3,000 printed pages of raw data. The estimated combined search volume for these phrases was over 597,000,000 searches/year, or a little over 18 searches per second.
